Introducing children to programming

I was introduced to Logo (programming the turtle!) at a very young age (2nd grade I believe). Realizing that typing a few lines could make the “turtle” draw on the screen quickly drew me into the world of programming.  I went on to learn TI-Basic on my TI-99/4a, and eventually ended up in QuickBasic on my blazing fast 10MHz 286 Tandy.

My daughter's first day of 2nd grade is today, and I will be showing her Logo throughout the year.  I found a nice site here (there are tons of other sites on programming the turtle, and probably some applets to play with right on the web).

I'm thinking Logo might be a good idea for Jacob. I bought him a Python book for xmas last year, and he picks it up every now and then and at least shows mild interest. I certainly haven't pushed him in this area. Perhaps a few pair programming sessions are in order...

The graphical aspect of Logo might be more appealing to him. I'll let you know how it goes.
