Self Improvement

You ever get the feeling that you're wasting your time?  What if you suddenly realized that you have lost 400+ hours of time per year, that weren't spent sleeping, working, or being with the family?  A good friend today pointed me to something that now seems obvious... The average person drives 15k miles per year.  Averaging 35MPh (my average, according to my travel computer), this amounts to over 400 hours spent in the truck per year.  The guy that shared this with me travels closer to 40k, but that explains a lot :)

This 400 hours a year is time I've always spent listening to my favorite CDs or to the radio.  This is time that could've been more productive.  I have audio recordings of seminars and conferences, there are downloadable audio books on every facet of self-improvement, from parenting to organizational skills, to running a home business.  Listening to these things while driving makes perfect sense.   I want my 4900 hours of self-improvement time back.

I think alot of us spend alot of time each year driving to work and back. I drive a total of about an hour a day on my commute to work. I burn the DotNetRocks shows to cd and listen to it on my commute, but that only takes up one days worth of driving. I would love you have audio recordings of seminars and other things to listen to.

Hahaha, you are so right. I started listening to some things while driving, but then moved 3 miles from work! I've seen some interesting audio courses at Barnes and Noble that cover all kinds of topics.

Check out http://www.audible.com. It's got a huge variety of audio books that you can burn to different formats (mp3, real audio, CD, etc.).

I started subscribing to them a couple of years back, and now try to get through a new audio book every week or so.
