Chris Brooks has has been in Israel for business, but had time to make a post on the experience here. Check it out, the wall of German games has me drooling.
For those of you that are still thinking Parcheeeeeeezy, Monopoly, Life, and Clue... These aren't your parents' games, they've gotten so much cooler than what we all grew up with... You can buy a Clue here.
Ticket To Ride is a great introductory game for a group of 3-5 people (the more the better). I recognized it in Chris' post, and saw the Zug um Zug (German for “course around course“) in the title, had to throw it into this post...
A good game for exactly 4 players is Blokus. It's extremely easy to learn, very tactical, and has a great piss-off factor (which is great with friends, not that great with the wife & another couple).
Gaming for 2
Many of the Kosmos games are very good. My wife & I play: Lost Cities, Balloon Cup, and Odin's Ravens.
As I've said before, GIPF is amazing. We have been playing a lot of YINSH and DVONN.
For those that enjoy being humbled by children
Check out Set... Every once in awhile I like to be reminded that I'm really nothing more than a blind idiot next to my 8 year old daughter. A typical round goes like this:
Natalie: “SET!!!“ *slap* *slap* *slap* (new cards being slapped down, she's very quick at this, lots of practice)
Me: “Nice honey, good job!“ (repeat this and previous step 3-4 times)
Natalie: “Thanks dad, SET!!!!“ *slap* *slap* *slap*
Me: “Once again... well done“ (little frustrated, focusing harder)
Natalie: “SET!!!“ *slap* *slap* *slap*
Me: “SET!!!“ (I attempt to point a what I thought was a set)
Natalie: “I saw that already, that's not a set... SET!!!“ *slap* *slap* *slap*
By this point, I'm frustrated and ready to burn the stupid game, while she's safely tucked behind a tall stack of SET cards she's captured...
