FlashDrive URL Library (Windows)

Update: This, like just about everything, works in Firefox as well...
I'm a trendalicious junkie.

Every day, I check out trendalicious, Digg, and populicious for the latest hot sites on the web.

I'm constantly storing and referring to links for:
 software I use
 tutorials & documentation
blogs & sites of people I know and follow
 new technologies
google searches to follow over time
 online subscriptions
communities and groups I'm involved with
 to-read items
 good writing, articles
 web-utilities

I've got a folder structure that reflects my daily workload:
\Projects\ - everything that's rolling & not related to work
\Ideas\ - With any luck, these items get moved into Projects
\Work\ - Notes, contact info, project info regarding work projects
 \Learn\ - Technologies/techniques I intend to learn in the near-future
 \Personal\ - Good writing, self-improvement, humor, etc
\Design\ - Fonts, Stock Photos & sites, prototypes
\Favorites\ - hierarchy of favorite websites
\Patterns Practices Procedures\ - Best practices, snippets by technology & language
\Software\ - Flash-drive software, apps & links to apps to run from anywhere
 \Software\Development\ - Sorceforge projects or dev-related apps

Adding new items is as easy as dragging the url icon from your browser's Address bar into the appropriate folder on the flash-drive.

Whenever I find an app or sourceforge project that I want to make note of, I make a folder for it and grab the shortcut.

If I discover a good Google query I want to follow over time, I drop that url onto the drive:
 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=darwin+vii&btnG=Google+Search

Finally, I have a small vbs script I wrote years ago that iterates over the drive and creates a dump file that reflects the directory structure & all .url files.

Download the script [here]
View script source [here] (save as .vbs)

Gerry,

Check out www.furl.net. It's kind of like delicious and spurl except that it actually archives the web page for you. It also allows you to export your "furls" as a zip archive or as a simple list of bookmarks.

It also has a RSS feed that you could use instead of your .vbs system.

Yup, Furl is awesome.

What I have with this system and what I maybe didn't illustrate too well is the ability to keep the urls WITHIN my file system, along with my other files. I've got dozens of other files per .url stored on the thumbdrive, the vbs was a quick & dirty solution to index them.

Wow, I'm astounded you aren't using Firefox.

That's too bad, I was getting excited there for a second :(

Well, okay, reading a little further it's obvious you're into .NET, (or develop with it?) so no Firefox is understandable.

That said, thank you for trendalicious. It's fantastic.

I use both actually, and thought about putting up a Firefox pic instead, but I gotta stick to my roots. :)

Yes, I'm a .Net developer. Thanks for the feedback.
